This day in history...Jan 9

A span of over 70 years today but with a link.

First off we have two aircraft making their maiden flights and in 1943 Lockheed put the first of one of the most beautiful looking aircraft into the skies - the L049 Constellation.

A number of further versions went on to be produced.

Next came the Hawker Siddeley Trident in 1962 with its groundbreaking autoland capability taken for granted today.

This aircraft although missing out on the sort of sales the 727 achieved went on to appear in further versions.

More on Cyprus Airways below!

Did you know that the Trident was actually a 4 engined aircraft? To find out more about this, the Constellation and much more then take a look at the end of this blog for a special offer on my book 'Flying Firsts' with much more about aircraft first flights.

We fast forward now to witness the restarting of Indian Airline Vistara in 2015

2015 wasn't as good a year for Cyprus Airways however as the airline ceased trading after 60 years.

As mentioned earlier, if you are interested in getting hold of a copy of my book 'Flying Firsts' detailing maiden flights of over 120 aircraft along with a brief history, then click on the image below or HERE for more information.
